soil-plant-atmosphere-continuum labFerrerEl próximo lunes 26 de septiembre de 2016 organizamos junto con el Prof. Dr. Fernando Valladares del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales – CSIC, Apogee Instruments y Decagon Devices Inc. el seminario “Environmental Sensors & Measurements in the Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum”

All environmental conditions are fluctuating in the field, with timescales ranging from minutes to days affecting plant characters such as photosynthesis, water potential … and generating a mixed or a confusion of effects. The scaling up to canopy level will be also affected as well, disturbing the spatiotemporal variations in ecosystem-atmosphere fluxes of mass and energy.

To ensure that our canopy and plant measures, indicators and calculated indexes are correct, improved approaches to environment characteristics are needed and these will likely involve direct or indirect measurements of plant and canopy and their interpretation. In addition, when trying to quantify plant response to different cultivars and environmental & management conditions, it is necessary to measure soil moisture status. That is why is important to know how soil moisture and water potential sensors work and the how to get meaningful measurements in the field

In this seminar, Mr. Leo Rivera MSc from Decagon Devices and Mr. Mark Blonquist MSc from Apogee Instruments will discuss how to measure and calculate environmental parameters to be used to study energy & water balances and plant response in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum.
